Tribes 2 - Introduction & Patches

Right you've either got the game or you're thinking - 'what the hell is it all about?'

Well, here I'm going to introduce you to Tribes 2. If you've played other games online then Tribes 2 should be easy for you to pick up. It's basically a first perspective shoot-them-up, with a ton of features to make your mouth water.

Creating this section is not easy. I could overload it with text explaining every single aspect of Tribes 2, but I'm sure you don't want a lecture, so I'm going to walk you through the game step by step.

Ok the boring bit first. You can skip the patching process if you like and dive into the training mode first (details below), but I'd recommend you grab the latest patches first. These will fix bugs, and add some new features.

Step 1: Click the "Tribes 2 Online" shortcut that should be on your desktop (or find it in your Dynamic/Tribes2/ folder). You can also put the Tribes 2 CD in your machine and select "Online".

Step 2: The auto-down loader will check your copy of Tribes 2 and give you options to download an update. Accept this, and follow the on screen instructions.

Note: There are 2 updates that you'll come across. One is a sierra updater which updates the auto-downloader program. The other patches are for the game itself.

Step 3: The patch will download and tell you it's updating itself. Next you'll be asked to download the game patches. Select a patch and press ok. You'll start to download the latest patches. This might take some time so be prepared to twiddle your thumbs, make a cup of tea, or go out side and get some fresh air, because it maybe the last chance you get once you start playing this game ! :).

Step 4: Once the patches are downloaded they will ask you where to install them to (they should already be pointing at the right area so press "ok").

Step 5: The game will load, and you'll be at a screen asking you to create an account. Close the game now (It will be fully patched and up to date at this point) and load up "Tribes 2 Solo & LAN" where you'll get to grips with Tribes 2. I'll talk you through the signup process (which is totally free) later on, but for the time being your aim is to set up the game and complete the training missions...

Problems? If you have problems patching the game when you first install it then grab the file from http://tribes2update.sierra.com. Install this patch and then try the auto down loader again and it should fix the problem.
