Operation Flashpoint - Game Screen

There's lots to see and do via the game screen - and luckily it's well designed, enabling you to interact with the game easily.  Expect the different menus to fade out after a short time if not used.  This leaves you with a clear screen enabling you to concentrate fully on downing any enemies nearby.

The game screen is fully customisable and some features will be turned off depending on the difficulty level you have selected. If you want to experience warfare near as you can get without getting your own feet wet and head blown off, turning off all the game screen menus will  result in a highly realistic setting.

Player View

You have two views.

1st person, which is shown in the image far left.  This is where you look through the eyes of your character, and gives the best all round view when it comes to targeting enemies.

3rd person gives you a view outside your body and as you can see you can observe a larger area. This view is good for checking the positions of your team mates and to get a bigger view of the world around you.

To switch views press the enter key on the far right of the keyboard.

Crosshair + Indicator & Selecting Weapons + Status

Information about these two sections can be found here, along with other information about using the weapons in the game.

Action Menu

By pressing enter, or your middle mouse button, you'll see the action menu.  To select an option move up or down the list (via the wheel on the mouse or via your forward / backward keys) then press enter or the middle mouse button again.

The number of options in the action menu will change if you are near a vehicle (image left was taken with me near a M1A1 tank), as you can see the options are context sensitive and offer several possibilities for interacting with the M1A1.

Radio

This will be used extensively, and you'll have be paying it a lot of attention when the radio starts to kick in, especially in a fire fight.

When your squad leader gives a command he will sometimes indicate the direction.  A clock symbol will appear on the left of your screen to give you your bearings.  So if the command is "enemy spotted at 1 o'clock"  you'll be able to position yourself to face the target, and advance to take it down.

Waypoints

When in a squad the leader will ask you to stay in formation. Follow the yellow square to remain within the formation.  If at anytime the leader orders you to move to 'x' location a waypoint will appear in the distance, and an indicator will show where it is  - and how far away.   For example in the image at the top of this page you'll see the waypoint is to the left at a distance of 890m.

Command Menu & Command Bar

By pressing the backspace key or one of the number keys you'll access the command menu.  This is mainly used when you're a squad leader, together with the command bar.  I'll cover this in detail in the Squad Command section here.
