Doom 3 Watch
Last updated: 06th August 2004

On December 1993 the first shareware version of the original Doom was released. A nightmarish world was unleashed upon us with demons and hell knights being just a few of the hellish beasts intent on ripping you from limb by limb. Doom also offered the world its first taste of pure multiplayer heaven... Doom 2 was released later on offering us more, but now Doom 3, one of the most eagerly awaited games of 2004, promises to push the boundaries of the gaming world forward and scare the crap out of us in the process.

id Software

Some highlights on what you can expect:

  • Storyline You will play a marine on a Mars research facility where experiments into transporting over great distances via transportation gates goes horribly wrong... Unlike most games where the story is bolted on, Doom 3's storyline will be used to immerse the you in the game. It will be  written by a professional writer; Matt Castelo, who wrote the scripts for 7th Guest and Eleventh Hour.

  • Shadow and lighting Imagine entering a well lit room. You hear the sound of bone breaking and suddenly all hell breaks loose! You bring your gun to bare and let rip streams of shells towards the noise, lights explode and dim to nothingness... The last empty shell casing hits the floor and as you rearm yourself with your trusty sidearm, you hear a grunt, spotting movement in the corner of the room from a distant light source. You grip your pistol tightly cursing yourself for blowing out all the lights...

Shadows will give away enemy locations and aiming your shots to avoid plunging yourself into darkness will be a key factor like never before.

  • Use key There will be no use key. Instead your gun will lower as you reach active points in the game, like a door allowing you to interact by using a cursor.

  • Weapons Your basic weapon will be the old hand pistol. Other weapons will include the shotgun, chain gun, rocket launcher and some of the BFG (Big F**king Gun) which if like the old BFG will make one hell of an impact once fired :). Ammunition will be very limited across the game forcing you to think and not charge into situations with all guns blazing.
