Counter Strike - Weapons

Note: To save me a lot of typing, Terrorists = T, Counter-Terrorists = CT

Thanks to Bigfoot for the cs weapon guide. Geist and Jeffrey Lau, for the additional detailed weapon stats. [SO]Tikka for the crosshair screenshots, and the CS team for the use of their weapon images.

Knife

Combat Knife

The knife is deadly. Although getting up close the enemy is not easy, on occasions it does happen and this is when the knife excels in close combat.

Combat Knife. By Geist + S.A.S (description) and Jeffrey Lau (stats)
Details about how stats are calculated here.

Cost: Free
Features: Free. Unlimited ammo.
Changes: Damage varies depending on the area you hit.

Primary attack does really quick slashes (30 damage)
Secondary attack does a slow vicious stab (80 damage)

Head hits will do more damage. One hit from the secondary attack to the head of a non-armoured player can kill!

Everyone starts with a combat knife, and you could be forgiven for thinking that in a game filled with guns of all types, a knife would be pretty useless! But it causes a horrendous amount of damage if you manage to get within slashing range of your target, in ultra-close combat the knife is brilliant, and if combined with some jumping and spinning techniques, can confuse an armed enemy into losing track of you and letting you get a sneaky slash in (and remember to aim high for the head). You probably wont fool an experienced player, so the knife is best left until you can sneak up behind an opponent or have no ammo at all, but if you feel in a bit of a psychotic mood, try some butchery .

Pistols

USP (Universal Self-Loading Pistol) Tactical .45 ACP

Manufacturer:
Heckler & Koch
Cost: $500

Detail : CT's default weapon, its slightly more expensive than the T's due to a superior smoothness of fire but it doesn't have the advantage of the Glock's burst mode. You will have to learn how to use this one well in the first couple of rounds you play, as quite often there just won't be the money to buy anything superior other than another handgun, and saving the money for the next round is a good idea. Go for the head shots, but if you can get an angle on someone without them seeing you this gun will finish them off.
Try to use : When not taking on people face to face, after the initial melee's between the two sides. Use the silencer for better accuracy.
Try not to use : If you can afford a better weapon.
Try to remember : It's silenced and fairly accurate, so can be quite effective at picking off enemies one by one if you can isolate them.

H&K USP.45 Tactical By Geist (description) and Jeffrey Lau (stats)
Details about how stats are calculated here.

*H&K USP .45 Tactical (not silenced)
Cost: $500
Type: Pistol
Max ammo: 12 | 59 (seems to be a bug where you can purchase an additional 12 bullets if you have 47 in reserve).
Reload time: 2.70
Number of shots per second: 6.12
Damage: (16, 9)
Shots to kill: 7
Kevlar penetration: 1.78
Recoil type: Pistol
Features: CT-starting pistol; can be silenced with by pressing the alt-fire
button. The silenced USP does marginally less damage.
Changes: The unsilenced USP is as powerful as the USP from beta 6.1. Reload
time has been increased (old value: 2.00).

*H&K USP .45 Tactical (silenced)
Reload time: 2.74 (not sure about this; reload time is probably the same as
the unsilenced USP).
Number of shots per second: 5.89 (not sure about this either; it's probably
the same as the unsilenced USP).
Damage: (14, 8)
Shots to kill: 8
Kevlar penetration: 1.75
Changes: Weaker than the B6.1 USP (Old TOTAL: 25. New TOTAL: 22. Not a big
difference, really). Like all pistols, the new USP fires faster. (Old ROF:
3.69. New ROF: 5.89).

This is the bog-standard Counter Terrorist pistol, all the Counter Terrorist players will start equipped with one of these. Since Beta 6.2, its has been altered slightly, and in my opinion, improved. It now has a removable silencer, which is toggled by the secondary fire button, making it more versatile as you can leave the silencer off which means more damage and accuracy. With the silencer on, the muzzle flash and noise of usage is reduced dramatically making it good for sneak attacks, but remember that accuracy is reduced. Although it doesn't seem very powerful, the USP.45 can still take a man down easily with a head shot or two, and another new feature of this and all the pistols is that they are now truly semi-automatic, you have to repeatedly press the fire button to shoot, instead of holding it down, so if you have a fast trigger finger, you can get an impressive rate of fire out of the USP.45. Its still no match for even the worst sub-machine gun though, so use it only to finish off a wounded enemy or if you have no other weapon available.

Glock 18

Manufacturer: Glock
Cost: $400

Detail : The T's start weapon, beta 6 gave it a nice new sound but it can't hide the fact that its the puniest weapon in Counter Strike. Can be mildly effective when used in semi-automatic mode, by selecting the alternate firing mode if you find yourself in close quarters combat (levels with narrow corridors and confined spaces) the burst fire can make a difference between this and the CT's start weapon. It's other advantage over the CT's pistol is that it can carry almost twice as much ammo, making it more than acceptable as a first round weapon if use sensibly.
Try to use : In very close quarters combat, with burst mode on.
Try not to use : If you can afford a better weapon.
Try to remember : The burst mode is quite inaccurate, using it all the time will waste valuable ammo.

Glock18 Select Fire Handgun. By Geist (description) and Jeffrey Lau (stats)
Details about how stats are calculated here.

*Glock18 Select Fire
Cost: $400
Type: Pistol
Max ammo: 20 | 120
Reload time: 2.26
Number of shots per second: As fast as you can click, literally.
Damage: (9, 5) in semi-auto; (28, 14) in 3-burst.
Shots to kill: 12 in semi-auto; 4 in 3-burst.
Kevlar penetration: 1.8 in semi-auto; 2.00 in 3-burst.
Recoil type: Pistol.
Features: T-starting pistol; can be switched between semi-auto and 3-burst
by pressing the alt-fire button. Faster firing than the USP.
Changes: Severely weakened. (Old TOTAL: 18. New TOTAL: 14. Old shots to
kill: 9. New shots to kill: 12). Much faster firing.

The Glock is the basic Terrorist pistol, all the Terrorist players will start with this gun. It has remained much the same as in Beta 6.2, it still performs a little better than the H&K USP.45, due to its larger magazine and selectable fire modes. The single shot is quite accurate, and as I mentioned before, with the semi-auto firing, the rate of fire is really only limited by how fast you can pull the trigger. The 3 round burst is very powerful when all the shots hit, and the spread of the burst has been reduced and seems much more concentrated, so you are more likely to get all three bullets to connect in this Beta. It suffers from the same lack of power as the USP.45, and again should only be used to kill a wounded enemy, or when no other weapon is available.

Desert Eagle .50AE

Manufacturer:
Magnum Research
Cost: $650

Detail : Go Ahead Punk, make my day ;p. Dirty Harry would be proud :). This hand cannon is everything an American gun should be. Big, shiny, powerful and very un-economical, it will put a hole in anything if you can get in close enough. Problem is that over distance it's quite poor, and with only 7 rounds in the clip you will be caught reloading quite often. The overall Ammo is limited, and really this gun should be used either as a last resort if you can't afford a 2nd stage gun or as a back up to a sniper gun. Some people like the distinctive noise and the power you get from using it, but it really is an acquired taste.
Try to use : In ambushes, or as early in the game as possible (perhaps in 1st round at expense of armour).
Try not to use : In maps where you have to move and fire a lot.
Try to remember : 7 shots and you're out, use them sparingly and reload whenever possible.

Desert Eagle .50E Magnum. By Geist (description) and Jeffrey Lau (stats)
Details about how stats are calculated here.

*Desert Eagle .50AE
Cost: $650
Type: Pistol
Max ammo: 7 | 35
Reload time: 2.20
Number of shots per second: 3.78
Damage: (39, 7)
Shots to kill: 3
Kevlar penetration: 5.57
Recoil type: Pistol
Features: Penetrates doors.
Changes: Weakened slightly. (Old TOTAL: 56. New TOTAL: 46). KPR is lower
(Old KPR: 7.00. New KPR: 5.57), but that doesn't mean much. Reload time may
be slightly longer (not sure on this one). Possibly faster firing.

The Desert Eagle is one of the most famous handguns around, its loud, it looks slinky, and most of all, it is immensely powerful. With accurate shooting it will prove deadly, but ammunition has to be a consideration, with only 7 rounds in a clip, you'll be hitting empty very quickly. With the Desert Eagles high calibre, it is able to shoot through doors and moderately dense objects, keep this in mind if your target ducks behind a crate to reload. Like the Sig-P228, this is a good accessory for a sniper.

Sauer P-228

Manufacturer:
Sig
Cost: $600

Detail : Less power more all round ability, this is probably the weapon most people will opt for in the very first round at the expense of no armour. It can stop anyone with a few well placed shots, armour or no armour, and with it carrying almost twice as much in the clip as a Desert Eagle and more overall ammo while it is a costly little number you will find it used in the first couple of rounds, most often by the team which lost the first round as it weighs in at just the right place to fill the gap between it and a 2nd stage weapon or maybe a 3rd stage.
Try to use : In ambushes, or where you have a clear line of fire.
Try not to use : In wide open spaces, snipers will mow you down before you get close enough to make full use of its power.
Try to remember : It can be used aggressively, don't hold back just because it is a pistol.

Sig-P228 Automatic Pistol. By Geist (description) and Jeffrey Lau (stats)
Details about how stats are calculated here.

*SIG P228
Cost: $600
Type: Pistol
Max ammo: 13 | 52
Reload time: 2.83
Number of shots per second: 5.82
Damage: (18, 6)
Shots to kill: 6
Kevlar penetration: 3.00
Recoil type: Pistol
Features: Nothing special. Basically a better USP.
Changes: The p228 hasn't changed at all since B6.1. Relative to the other
pistols, though, it's significantly weaker. The USP is only slightly worse
than the p228.

(x2) Dual Beretta 96G Elite (Terrorists Only)
