Counter Strike - The Environments

Note: To save me a lot of typing, Terrorists = T, Counter-Terrorists = CT.

In this section I'll show you some of the features in CS, and what to do when you your faced with them.

Doors
Doors in CS tend to be very noisy. If you open one it will squeak and alert everyone nearby. When approaching doors and doorways never walk right up to them and walk on through. Chances are the enemy are lying in wait. Instead hang right next to the door. Open it and step back against the wall. If there's gunfire then you know the enemy have the door in their sites. If nothing happens rush in. Never walk silently as it makes you go slow. By rushing through you can bring your gun to bare on any enemies nearby, and will have more of a fighting chance. Also if you have a grenade handy it's a good idea to throw one and run in just after it explodes. That way you'll rush through the smoke of the grenade or into blinded enemies, who will be slightly shaken from the grenade blast.

One tip. If you walk into a door to open it try to open it with the side of your body. If you open it face on your weapon sticks out through the door. This means any enemy in view of the door will know you are there!

Vents
There are a lot of vents in the game, with most of them being pitch black with darkness. Try not to shine your torch down a vent because this will alert the enemy who may lie in wait near the vents exits, or they will lob in a grenade which due to the tight area of the vent will cause a lot of damage or even kill you outright in the blast.

The biggest danger is being shot at whilst try to travel inside a vent. Always have your weapon aimed directly in front of you. Swing back behind you if you are not 100% sure it's secure. Then swing back to the way you're moving.

Sewers
The problem with sewers are the echoes. If you rush down them your footsteps echo on down them and this will alert the enemy to your presence.

Try walking down them instead, and when you are about to turn a corner dive around it. If you walk slow around a corner you'll been seen by the enemy first and have less time to react.

Grenades are effective in sewers and can be lobbed at corners to make them bounce around and explode near any awaiting enemy troops :).

Lifts
Again nosy like the doors, but useful if you need to get 2 or more people to an area fast.

Lifts are also useful to confuse the enemy. You can touch them to make them go up/down, but there is no reason you have to get on :). A moving lift will attached attention whilst you or the rest of your team attack from a different direction.

Ladders
The problem with ladders is you don't know what's waiting for you at the top. Stepping onto a ladder causes noise, and any enemy above will know your coming. However ladders are usually the only way to reach certain areas.

Best thing to do is jump onto a ladder and listen for 2-3 seconds. If there's movement either chance going up or if possible back off and go else where.

If you crouch down then climb a ladder you make half the noise you would on it if you had started to climb by standing up. Although slower to move up the ladder crouching is the way to go if you fear the enemy is nearby listening for your move.

Water
Try not to stay in the water to long or you will start to run out of oxygen.

Entering and leaving the water causes a splash noise, so try to get out near some cover, just in case you come under fire.

Corridors
Usually long and with little cover. Most of the enemy will hide right on the corners ready to pop out as you near them and greet you with gun fire.

Never walk down the middle of a corridor. A player will always shoot down the middle. If you keep your back against one of the walls as you move or keep up close to one side of the corridor you'll usually miss the first 1-3 shots from the enemy if they enter the corridor you're in.

Stairs
Firing down them is easier than firing up. Again never walk up the centre of the stairs, and remember. Anyone on the floor at the top of the stairs will see your head before your even able to bring your weapon to that level to fire, so rush up the stairs and be ready for action.

If going down the stairs, again your legs will appear before the rest of your body and any enemy below will fire at your legs and the rest of your body as you walk down. So rush down stairs or even jump down them if possible.

Walkways
Ideal to rain fire down on the enemy below. Walkways are usually easy to defend on, and of course there is the added bonus of having the ability to jump off them onto crates or even players below :).
