Counter Strike - Playing CS

Note: To save me a lot of typing, Terrorists = T, Counter-Terrorists = CT.
How the game works
Once you join a server you will be given a brief outline of the
objectives for the map's scenario. Once you know the objectives of the
scenario you will pick a team and try to (with the other players on your
team) complete the set objective within the timelimit (Usually 5 minutes). If the objective is
completed by either the terrorists or counter-terrorists, within the time
limit then that team wins the round. Of course if one side kills everyone on the other team then that
to is classed as a victory. Once a 'round' has been completed it
restarts and the scenario is played once again. Game
Scenarios
There are four scenarios in the game:
-
Hostage Rescue
Terrorist Objectives: To secure hostages, and block CT's
attempts at rescue.
Counter-Terrorist Objectives: Free hostages and take them
safely back to the 'Hostage Rescue Zone'.
-
Bomb / Defuse
Terrorist Objectives: To plant a bomb on one of the available
'Bomb delivery zones'. Once planted they must ensure it is not defused
by a CT.
Counter-Terrorist Objectives: Prevent terrorists from planting
the bomb. If they are unable to do this and it's planted, their aim
will be to defuse it before it blows.
-
Escape
Terrorist Objectives: With limited weaponry (collected
from a nearby armoury), the terrorists have to escape to one of two
escape points. (50% of the Terrorists have to escape for a terrorist
victory).
Counter-Terrorist Objectives: With access to all the usual CT
weapons, their job is to hunt down and prevent Terrorists from
escaping.
**Note: After 8 rounds the teams swap roles,
with CT's becoming the terrorists.
-
Assassination
Terrorist Objectives: To assassinate the VIP.
Counter-Terrorist Objectives: To lead the VIP to safety and
help him reach the escape point at all costs.

Choosing a team
Upon joining
the game and after reading the map scenario objectives it's time to choose
a side or be a spectator and check out the action. Before joining a team, always check the score board (default key TAB).
See if the teams are even and either join the team that is unbalanced or
has lost a lot of 'rounds'. Joining the winning team is lame and you will
be called names for doing it :).

The rounds |
 |
In CS
each player gets one life per round, with each round lasting
no more than 5 minutes. If
within that time one of the sides completes their objective they win
that round. However... ...If one team eliminates the other
team, that to is awarded as a win to the team that has
players left alive. Although completing the objective is easier to
do than wiping out a whole team.
|
If neither team has won after the round has been completed it is
considered a win to one side depending on the scenario:
- Hostage: If after the
round ends and there is at least 1 player left on both teams, and not all
the hostages have been rescued then the game will be a win for the
terrorists.
- Bomb / Defuse: If the round ends, with
the bomb having not blown up a target, and there is still at least 1 player
left on both sides the CT's will win.
- Escape: If the round ends, with at
least 1 player alive on both teams, and less than 50% of the terrorists have
escape, the CT's will win.
- Assassination: If the round ends, with
players left on both teams and the VIP has not reached the escape point, the
terrorists win.
The scoreboard and in game text for each player indicates the
side he is on. Blue = Counter-Terrorists, and red = Terrorists.
When players are 'dead' it is indicated on the
scoreboard. Remember you
only get one life per round. If you die you enter 'spectator mode' and
here you can view the rest of the round's action. Check the bar that
appears at the bottom of the screen when you're in 'spectator mode' so
you can see the options available. Once a round ends all
players restart alive and ready to do battle all over again.
You can also choose to be a spectator
all the time and view the action without having to play. It's a good way to see how
CS works, and watch where the players take up positions on a map.
Note: From CS version 1.3 on wards you get an enhanced scoreboard with
voice comms options. These are outlined
here.
